Franklin Northwest Supervisory Union – Asbestos Management Plan
Availability Notification

To: Parents, Teachers, and Employee Organizations, Workers and Building, Occupants (or their legal guardians):

This notification is required in accordance with Title II of the Toxic Substance Act, commonly referred to as the Asbestos Hazardous Emergency Response Act of 1986 or “AHERA”, 15 USC Section 2641 et. seq, and the regulation promulgated pursuant to AHERA, 40CFR Part 763 Subpart E.52 Federal Register 41826 (October 30, 1987).

Asbestos Management Plans have been developed for the following list of educational facilities, grades K-12. As required, management plans are developed for the educational facilities even if no asbestos-containing materials are present. These plans are available and accessible to the public at each individual facility, as well as the Franklin Northwest Superintendent’s Office, 100 Robin Hood Drive, Swanton, VT 05488.

Sheldon Elementary School Principal Search

The Sheldon School District has announced that Sheldon Elementary School Principal Linda Keating will step down from her position, effective June 30, 2015.  She will become the Director of Curriculum for Franklin West Supervisory Union beginning on July 1, 2015. Keating has been principal at Sheldon Elementary since 2012. FNWSU Superintendent Winton Goodrich will facilitate the search process for the new principal.

Recruitment timeline:

  • March 24 – Board Meeting – Develop Principal Search Process and Charge Screening Committee
  • March 26 – Faculty Meeting – Brainstorm Principal Skills
  • March 30 – Parent Meeting – Brainstorm Principal Skills
  • March 31– Application Review
  • April 3– First Round Interviews
  • April 6– Second Round Interviews and Reference Checks
  • April 9– Site Visits to Candidate Districts
  • April 13– Candidates Visit to Sheldon School
  • April 14– School Board Interview and Hiring Meeting

Parents and community members will have two opportunities to provide feedback on the type of skills and experience they wish to see in the next principal.  The first is to attend the March 30th parent meeting at 6:00 PM at Sheldon Elementary School.  The second will be during the parent and community forum with candidates on April 13th at 4:00 PM, also at Sheldon Elementary School.

The screening committee will have one parent representative who will participate in the full recruitment process.

 Sheldon Principal Search Committee Charge

Committee Mission:
The Sheldon Elementary School Board charges the Screening Committee with the authority to guide the initial phase of the principal search process.  This process shall start on March 24, 2015 and conclude with the hiring of a new principal.  The Screening Committee shall work with the FNWSU Superintendent to complete the search process. The Screening Committee shall present to the Superintendent up to three candidates who meet the criteria established by the Screening Committee and/or the Board. The Screening Committee shall provide information on candidate experience, specific skills, and related background details to the Superintendent following completion of the initial screening process, but shall not rank order the candidate list.  The Superintendent and School Board will interview finalist candidates.  The Superintendent will recommend one finalist candidate to the School Board for employment.

The School Board will establish Screening Committee membership categories. Each member will be appointed by their respective stakeholder group.  The Committee shall be chaired by the School Board member.  In addition the Committee shall appoint a secretary who will be responsible for maintaining all search process documents.

Committee Process:
Parents and community members who wish to provide feedback on the qualifications, skills and experience the next principal should possess will have two chances to do so.  The first is to attend the March 30th parent meeting at 6:00 PM at Sheldon Elementary School.  The second will be during the parent and community forum with candidates on April 13th at 4:00 PM, also at the School.

The Committee is authorized to prepare and distribute search materials including using web information and electronic applications.   The Committee will review all candidate credentials using SchoolSpring.com.

The Committee shall conduct first-round applicant interviews with no more than six candidates; second round interviews, no more than three candidates.

Committee members shall agree to keep all applicant information confidential until the finalist candidates are selected.

All Committee meetings shall be warned and open to the public.  However, the Committee shall review candidate materials and deliberate in executive session, complying with Vermont Open Meeting Law requirements. The Committee shall keep meeting minutes and ensure they are posted to the School website within five days following each Committee meeting.
